Omnigraffle chess stencils
If you’re on a MAC, playing chess and using Omnigraffle for creating chess diagrams, then you’re in bad need of Danny’s Chess stencils. Unfortunately, those were not available anymore on his main site, fortunately, Danny sent them to me and let mobitrends mirror them, so here there are just for you!

Zattoo - Live P2P TV on your PC
Just discovered Zattoo which *is* really impressive. Zattoo is live TV on your PC… this is nice already, but when you realize that the content elivery network is actually done in Peer-to-Peer and that the guys at Zattoo actually are working country-by-country in getting the right to broadcast the local channels and building up a “virtual” cable operator, you can only reamin astonished at that awesome project that really is a killer compared to Joost. They can guarantee you will get the live media stream to display the first image in less than 5 seconds which is impressive. LiveTV is the ground 0 service expected by the end user and they deliver it in a really smart way. Can’t wait to see how the company expands !
Plein Ecran - LCI

I was on TV yesterday (my first TV show - great experience) on LCI at “Plein Ecran” the top French show on technology animated by Cédric Ingrand. I was there talking about connected devices (and followed by my personal Spykee) and WaveStorm news, along with Rafi and his Nabaztag rabit. Spykee did a short video : and if you want to see more go ahead and watch the full podcast available here on LCI website (or iTunes).
Navx private beta

I’ve been invited to the Navx private beta presentation on Thursday (thanks Florent and Jean). I was pretty curious about what Navx was up to since I didn’t get any real update for the last year (since they raised their Series A, actually). I must confess I really like what they presented, Navx beta is going to be a 100% free and open platform aggregating your position information gathered through any gps-enabled device and bridging this data over to your other preferred services (flickr, for automatic picture tagging, your blog for tour maps sharing…). Getting my invite code on monday, can’t wait to try it out !
They even developped a plugin for TomTom devices that sniffs you track and then lets you upload it directly to Navx website in one click. I used another service called motionbased which is kind of similar, but very web1, pretty slow to use an I felt kind of stuck to it once you start uploading your data into it. Hope Navx does a better job, I’d be more then happy to switch !

There are *other* geeks
Always fun to join as newbie a g33k community - as there are “other” g33ks. You are all familiar with the g33ks that talk about strange computer stuff, IP, NATs, 802.11 and whatever - that’s our computer geeks (good you’re one of them if you are reading this blog :p ). Well I just started playing on WoW as some of you may now, and thus I started to listen to some dedicated podcasts such as Azeroth.fr, and honestly the first two minutes of that podcast (especially as it’s in french) where really confusing - half of the words those guys were using were totally not understandable - like “alterac” “debuf” “BG” …Not sure I really want to know all those words but it’s really fun how communities come up with some special vocabulary of theirs, and it’s OK as long as it’s limited to a couple of specific terms … otherwise it gets really hard to get into it.

Moo cards
Just made a full new bunch of cute Moo cards, as sometimes I do meetings on behalf of some of the companies Mobitrends invested in, the WaveStorm business card was confusing, thus I came out with those funny moo cards ;). I really like a lot what Moo has been up to since their creating, innovation on the print market is not an easy task and yet they have managed pretty weel.

Fuel Cell technology
I was really impressed by this company, Horizon was created by a couple of French guys who moved to Shanghai to create the company. They started by creating the set of educational toys that you’ll see in the movie below and are now working with the army on fuel cell technology for battlefield. Imagine a small cylinder that you open, you urinate into and you get 14h o several watts of energy.

Happy new Year !
Almost forgot to wish you all the best for 2008 - 2007 has been really full for me (baby, getting married, lots of awesome projects / work…) hope I can take some time to breathe in 2008 ;). Anyway one thing is for sure, the environment of connected devices is getting more and more interesting, guess it will be a pleasure to follow up with it as it’s growing to a mature and mass market !
