SL-Messenger.com beta launch
As some of you might now, I participated during this summer to a small project around Second Life. Basically I’ve been exploring the metaverse for some time now, trying to understand better its inhabitants, their expectations, their frustrations, and gazing and the magnificent stuff they were able to create. When McKinsey started the VVC competition, I thought it was time to dig more into that platform and see more in details what opportunities the metaverse could bring (btw I did not join that competition as I did not have much time for this project and preferred to rely on professional developers to have this thing up and running fast, and putting money in the project was against competition rules).
We had that frustration about having hard time finding back where we’ve been who we’ve met and letting online friends reach us inworld.
We reached the conclusion that there is a bridge missing between the Online World and the Metaverse, and we wanted to provide that bridge to the Second Life communities, so we created SL-Messenger.com which was released in beta yesterday evening during Metaversed First Fridays where I took part in my first inworld panel, really cool experience.
Sl-Messenger binds the web and the Metaverse together.

Simply grab inworld a communications device, your watch, and wear it. This device will take notes of your current position, the places you’ve been to and the peoples you’ve met - and in total respect with your privacy (offline mode available
).
An online service will let you advertise on your blog your status and position on your web page (check on the right pane of this blog) (an API is available to create dedicated widgets if you wish) and you will be able to see in one glimpse without needing to go inworld if your friends are online and join them in one click.
Offering friendship has never been so easy, just check on your travelbook the people you met and offer them friendship… a watch will be immediately sent to them.
Finally you can send message from the web to someone currently inworld and have it delivered through his watch.
SL-Messenger is meant as an open project so please try it, use it, help us enhance it!
Join now!
Thanks to AyakashiTEC for releasing the project on time, you really managed to grab the soul of that project and make it work and contributed greatly to it
(and handle the thousands of lines of code :p )
Btw, if anyone can do sth with the terrible graphics, I’ll really appreciate :p
Update :The video of the event is now available on slcn.tv.
