Numericable & Darty in France – watch out for fake “Tres Haut Debit”

Picture 13.png

I wanted to subscribe a FTTB or FTTH offering – as I was investigating potential solutions I discovered that Neuilly was not connected yet… but some ISPs still were willing to sell me a Very High Bandwidth connection! After investigating I discovered that those crooks (Darty and Numericable) make a difference between the Very High Bandwidth offering which can be limited to 30Mb when no fiber is connected and the real offer with Fiber that goes up to 100M and gives a 50M Uplink speed (which is imho where the real interest is enabling new use cases such as giving live to my Steekr network drive account).
So be careful, their marketing is really aimed at deceiving you !
Note : Numericable is the more transparent here, as you can see at least they write in plain letters that bandwidth is being “up to 30Mb” – Darty makes no such mention on their site and you have to read the Terms and Conditions to get it – how lame…

Numericable : when triple play means triple fail

Sometimes convergence can be for the worse : when the Numericable backoffice fails it’s the whole pay-TV conditional access that goes wrong

I’m a Street Fighter

Nice buzz application for Street Fighter’s IV launch, takes a pic of you through the webcam and maps it on one if the player while rendering a combat sequence – nice stuff!

Adventureland moves to Versailles

DSCN0582.JPG

We tried to get to Versailles today – and sudden snow just got things harder then expected. Two hours earlier this place, in the wood between Versailles and Ville d’Avray was totally dry ! And the BMW which is rear wheel propulsion really was a mess in that environment. At the end of the day we managed to u-turn and get down the hill and back home !

Fun time PSP/iPhone/Book

As I just handed over a couple days ago a huge 40+ pages application file describing the VR-WEAR project for the National Company Creation challenge organized by the Research Ministry, which took a lot of time and energy of both Franck and I to complete in less then a week, this week-end was a no-brainer ! I took some time to enjoy some digital fun and wanted to share a bit of it with you :

On PSP first with “Star Ocean : First Departure” (Square Enix):

Nice RPG where you help the inhabitant of planet Roak fight a strange disease turning them into rocks one after another.

On iPhone with Crystal Defenders (Square Enix):

Little strategy game where you have 3 classes of soldiers you must position on the map and upgrade with wisdom to let them stop the monsters going from one end to another end of the maze.

And finally an excellent book : Ender’s Game

Ender Wiggin is a very bright young boy with a powerful skill. One of a group of children bred to be military geniuses and save Earth from an inevitable attack by aliens, known here as “buggers,” Ender becomes unbeatable in war games and seems poised to lead Earth to triumph over the buggers. Meanwhile, his brother and sister plot to wrest power from Ender.

Bye Vegas…

See you for CES2010 !
This year I spent quite a lot of time in the wynn, either for diner/fun times or for CES itself with Showstoppers and cntrstg being held there. It’s funny how every year another place gets the strong focus, I bet that next year if the huge resort being built south of the Bellagio is finished it will be the place to be.

LG Energy Tent

This solar tower by LG is not for sale (I asked!) but it’s being used to educate people on the use of clean energy. Inside the tower are tiny lockers where you can find plugs to recharge your mobile phone by using the energy from either the solar panel or the windmill.

French CES : Le Before

While I was stuck in Houston and struggling to make it on time in Vegas, I guess the French CES club had a great time at the NewYorkNewYork’s steakhouse. Thanks Mathieu for the pics!
