Steek Mobile Share : Sneak Peek

Some of you might already know it but I joined Steek to lead the Mobile division. While most of our work at Steek is still under the radar, I wanted to show you a sneak peek of something we have been working on for a few weeks : the “Steek Mobile Share” on Blackberry.
Check out the official blog post and a couple of pics showing how easy and secure we can make mobile sharing be.

Amazing application – I especially love the “offline” mode where you can pin content to your mobile for further use, cant’ wait to have that on my iPhone or BlackBerry !

Nintendo NES Zapper

Fc mobile IIAs I just received my FC-Mobile II Portable NES emulation system, I started wondering how the gun, aka the Zapper, was working. Indeed this little piece of plastic has been instrumental in many games such as the amazing “Duck hunt”.

So to keep things short here’s the idea : when you pull the trigger, screen goes blank and then with draw just blank squares at the target position. In the Zapper you have a diode detecting light and a lens focusing the beam.
The computer knows that if the diode detects light as it is drawing a square (or after the screen refreshes) then, that is the target at which the gun is pointed. Essentially, the diode tells the computer whether or not you hit something, and for n objects, the sequence of the drawing of the targets tell the computer which target you hit after 1 + ceil(log2(n)) refreshes (one refresh to determine if any target at all was hit and ceil(log2(n)) to do a binary search for the object that was hit).
And most important, it *can* still work on a HDTV as shown in the following video !

Streamezzo raises 4M€

Congrats to Streamezzo for this fund raising happening in tough times.

This round of funding will assist Streamezzo in expanding its international sales and marketing infrastructure, in consolidating its presence in China as well as in bolstering its leadership position in the mobile application arena. The new investment will facilitate, among other activities, to expand its current product and service offerings, as well as to support its developer’s ecosystem with enhanced solutions meeting the ever growing demand of technology enabling to easily create and massively deploy innovative rich mobile applications.

I’m sure that Innovacom will be a terrific partner and that the latest changes inside Streamezzo are pointing the company in the right direction. As you know I co-founded Kamayo, a rich media agency sold to Streamezzo in 2007 and as such I know how unique their technology and know-how is solving the issue of addressing massive amounts of mobile phones in a homogenous way.

Can’t wait too see how the business and use cases will grow for them !
