logo_ws_large_press.jpgJust a small call for CVs ;) WaveStorm is looking to hire a few electronics engineers (knowing PADS for PCB layout and DX Designer for the schematics) and having some experience in radio frequence … and we are also looking for a project manager engineer with a good understanding of networks, embedded systems and electronics… Check out the dedicated blog and send your resume at recrut@wave-storm.com.

Editorial of “Electronique”

without comments

Electronique is the best monthly issue about electronics you can get in France aimed at engineers mostly (some subjects are really tough … ). I had the oportunity to write this month’s foreword, and got a nice picture on p3 ;). I mostly wanted in this foreword to stress that it’s still way too costly to create wireless things: expensive skills, expensive tools, expensive prototypyng phase… and WaveStorm is preparing easy to use solutions on that regards so that any SMB can afford to add wireless (WiFi, BT, UWB…) to their products.
Thanks Atryu for the photo session !

Intel MacBook

without comments

Finally moved from my old PowerBook to a black MacBook… and it was really worth the upgrade ! Not only can I use Parallels to access Windows apps (I still need some of them) but the 2Gb of Mem really have the whole system work in an incomparable pace. Moreover when I compare it with the latest Dell laptop we bought, I feel so sorry for those Vista users that have more powerful notebooks and still are undergoing serious slowdowns (and interminable “yes I’m clicking on the button” “yes I really want to do it” sessions). And 802.11n is really awesome !

SMS Shopping list fot Windows Mobile

without comments

P5180014.JPGI was looking for a nice shopping list management software for my SGH i600 (whog just received a wonderful Leather cover by Vaja, it looks great on it! ), and I found this awesome piece of software that does the trick .. and more !
What is really awesome is that within the application you can define a keyword, for instance “shop” and when you receive an SMS starting by shop the content immediately gets inserted in your shopping list! I really can see some benefit to it as I usually forget to write down the stuff I’m supposed to buy… You can get it here on handango.

3g in China ?

without comments

China has been toying a lot since a couple of years regarding the 3g standard they were to use… On the first hand they were expected to use a proprietary solution that would be - so they said - royalty free. Most certainly this attitude has been quite common regarding all the existing industry standards - not restricted to telecommunication - but Telecomasia reports some opening in that regards : According to Yang Peifang, secretary general of the ministry’s telecommunication economist panel, “the three world standards will be used in China.”’. I guess China still remains a business country that would not let pass the huge revenue coming from visitors roaming on their network !

Draftn
Wi-Fi Alliance just announced first WiFi-N draft-2 certified products. Marvell, Atheros, Broadcom are as expected among the first to get this certification and we can expect to finally have interoperable wifi n preoducts within the next few weeks. Be sure to check your vendor’s firmware update if you allready got pre-n devices to make sure they comply to the standard.

Webwag at Innovate

without comments

I met Florent Pitoun at Innovate (although we had been talking quite a few times before) and was amazed by the quality of their mobile widget engine. His showcase was really stunning, firstly because his demonstration worked live (and you know how the Bonaldi effect can be hard to beat) and secondly because it worked smoothly with a simple J2ME implementation. Thomas just linked on the video that became available … had to share it with you !

WaveStorm on a:c Europe

without comments

Valerie just made a very nice review on WaveStorm’s latest activities on her alarm:clock Europe blog. Let’s hope Ki’i Frame will indeed be the children’s gift to their parents this christmas to keep them updated with their grandsons’ latest pics ! As she writes, there are more well-known brands to be announced … but I will have to keep my mouth shut for another few weeks before it becomes public !

Back from Innovate Europe 2007

with 2 comments

P5090010.JPGIt was the first time I attend Innovate Europe in Zaragoza, and I just loved it ! We were showing both Meccano Spykee and our latest wireless project the Ki’i Frame both based on our hardware CNX modules and our software stack. Our so-called booth, with was rather a table + chairs was right at the entrance of Zaragoza’s Teatro Principal where the conference was taking place … and what a succes we got ! Everyone was amazed by Spykee wandering around the theater playing sounds and blinking leds. If we already had had a few boxes they would have beeen all sold in a couple of minutes. Ki’i Frame also really got our audience enthousiastic ! With the usual pitch “you can give it to your mother and then remotely change the pictures you want her to see” or “if you like diving, you can watch live when people uploads new images on the Flickr diving group”, everyone was starting to imagine how digital imaging just got a lot easier !

P5100036.JPGBut the most important thing is certainly the quality of the people that were present, bright young entrepreneurs (Florent, Franck, Olivier), bright experienced entrepreneurs (Rodrigo, Marc, Tariq…) all with awesome project and ideas to share, VCs, analysts… and I even had the pleasure to finally meet Martin Varsavsky, Fon’s CEO who was honored with an “Entrepreneur of the year” award.
Thanks Chris, Tina, Cathy and all the Guidewire team to letting me in and thanks Lucie-Anne for your time and disponibility during the event, following you always lead to nice encounters ;).
Some more pics available on my flickr.
