Gantt on Mac
I had been looking for a replacement of Microsoft Project since when I turned to Mac OS. I tried GanttProject and several other tools, but I just wouldn’t be satisfied, but I finally found the solution, just after Omnigraffle replaced Visio in my heart, Omniplan just replaced Project. The guys at Omni Group are really doing an awesome job at designing great UIs and great software ;).

WiFi VoIP phone for metro networks
Earthlink will be using accton VoIP WiFI phone on their metro network in Anaheim. The phone and cradle are expected to cost $100 at launch. Unlimited domestic inbound and outbound calling will be $25 per month, and 500 outbound/unlimited inbound domestic calls would run $15 per month. Fun to see that a metropolitan WiFi network will be used for voice purposes …

Zenzui mobile Widgets
Zenzui is backed by Microsoft and provides a mobile widget browser currrently available on windows mobile devices… nice to have but I must confess I’m still wondering if that widget buzz will really lead to something. I’ve been using widgets since konfabulator (acquired by yahoo! and now known as Yahoo! widgets) and at the end of the day it seems to me that it’s just what it is : a gadget. In the case of PC widgets it also ends up killing my PC performances and crunching my memory, so I must confess I’m not that attracted to that kind of games.
On the other hand mobile widgets, should they be described through a standard form (XML?) could be the way to provide rich access to online applications more easily.
I’m not the only fool to picture that
Check this flickr page from bentobox … Just on the first page I noticed a few zigbee prototypes talking together

WiFi networks are closing down in Paris
There hasn’t been so many WiFi networks around… still it becomes more and more complicated to find an open one :(. Here is a stumbler from the WiFi spectrum in my previous apartment in Paris… 30 networks and no open node make alex a sad WiFi user….

Betatesteur.com party
Nice party this evening at the O’Sullivan near place Clichy organized by betatesteur.com, many gifts but as usual they were giving them away too late…
I always leave before the gifts :(. All the usual geek-blog-friends were around as you can see on the pics I took.

No security on Flickr ?
You know that it is possible on Flickr to choose whether a photo you uploaded should be public/private or limited to friends & families. It’s quite mandatory when you expect people to upload intimate pictures and of course you don’t want those to appear online.
But I just discovered there is no privacy at all. Take any picture you have turn it private, get the direct link to the picture you get on right-clicking on the picture, and although the picture is private anyone can access it through this direct link. I just turned this photo private and still, as you can see, you can access it !
I guess that this approach has been chose as it enables a better scalability for the service, on one had you have the Web UI with the search and access control engin, on the other side a bare file server pushing gigs and gigs of data on demand with zero processing.
Hong Kong Dollars

Arnaud, who happened to be slacking around my desk last friday, noticed something quite fun about the HK$ notes that were laying on my desk : they just *don’t* look the same : Check these two 20H$ notes from HSBC & Standard chartered bank, they don’t have anything in common except the fact that it’s written the same amount on each. Funny isn’t it ?
