Yet another WiFi operator
Valerie just pointed out on his blog the existence of Tomizone in New Zealand who just launched a Fon-like service over there :
With Tomizone, you share your fast internet connection to make money or you can use any Tomizone and get cheap access to the internet. Tomizone is available for use anywhere globally where there is a fast internet connection. The Tomizone software also prevents â??leechingâ?? or â??bandwidth theftâ?? from unauthorised people who connect to Wi-Fi or broadband networks.
Just like everyone (it was the ground stone of both QuickSpot and µHotSpot here at WaveStorm ), they use a home-brew firmware for the Linksys WRT54GL.
What is really interesting is that it got itself financed… although the amount is yet undisclosed. I guess the WiFi operator landscape is about to change, new models are arising and nobody is willing to pay 10â?¬/hr for WiFi anymore (check Thomas’ latest post about that) ! I’m not supposed to disclose that yet but one world major coffee store brand just let its WiFi operator down (swisscom)
to start offer cheaper WiFi to its clients. I’ll be talking more about that very soon I guess !
